Full McCloud remedy support now available

We’ve set up dedicated support for the McCloud remedy. The rules are complicated, and the paperwork can feel overwhelming, but you’re not alone. Our team of NHS pension specialists and expert partners are here to guide you through the process, making sure everything is accurate, on time, and as stress-free as possible.

Background

The McCloud remedy gets rid of the age discrimination that was found in pension plans for public service workers, including the NHS Pension Scheme. The discrimination resulted from allowing older members to remain in their legacy (1995 or 2008) scheme rather than being moved to the 2015 Scheme when it was introduced. The remedy is made up of two parts:

Part 1

  • closed the legacy public service pension schemes on 31 March 2022
  • ensured equal treatment for all public service pension scheme members by moving all active members into the reformed public service pension schemes on 1 April 2022

Part 2

  • returns members who moved to the 2015 scheme back into the legacy scheme for their pensionable service (‘remediable service’) effected by the discrimination during the remedy period, from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2022, which is referred to as ‘rollback’
  • offers a choice of whether to receive, legacy scheme benefits or 2015 scheme benefits for their remediable service benefits, both of which are payable from the legacy scheme

McCloud Rollback

The McCloud remedy has returned thousands of NHS pension members back to their legacy 1995/2008 scheme for service between April 2015 and April 2022. This rollback means pension growth for those years has to be recalculated, and so do your Annual Allowance tax positions.

For some members this will result in a tax rebate; for others it may create new charges. Either way, it is your responsibility to report these changes to HMRC within a strict three-month deadline from receiving your Remediable Pension Savings Statement (RPSS).

We know this process can feel daunting, especially when the complexity of NHS pension rules is added on top. That’s where our dedicated McCloud support comes in. We remove the hassle by:

  • Requesting your historic tax data directly from HMRC so you don’t have to dig through years of tax returns.
  • Reviewing your RPSS and recalculating your true position.
  • Identifying and correcting errors that could save you thousands of pounds.
  • Preparing everything you need to meet your HMRC obligations on time.

The good news is that our fees are fully covered by the cost claim-back scheme, so in practice there’s no cost to you.

We’ve been delivering McCloud support at scale for months and have a streamlined process in place. When your RPSS arrives, simply register and upload your documents, we’ll handle the calculations and keep you on track for the three-month deadline.
